Adding up unnecessary words, numbers, or characters
Another serious mistake made by amateurs when buying or registering a domain name is to add up unnecessary words or numbers or characters. They do this because the quality domain names with one and two words are already taken. Amateurs think that it's a good strategy and they feel they are very smart, but they are wrong, and couldn't be more wrong.
Putting together strange combinations of words and numbers and characters is the wrong strategy. You will never build up a brand with useless domain names generated this way, and users are not going to twist their tongues to please you. They will simply avoid you.
The reality is that these bad domain names usually lose over 99% of the traffic and the competitors gets it. If you want to keep on working hard and waste your hard earned cash only to make your competitors richer, then continue to use these useless domain names and your competitors will love you for the free traffic, and valuable business you sent them.
When you select the wrong domain names, not only will you lose this valuable traffic and your competitors will get it, but you must also expect that your clients will send their e-mails to your competitors thinking it's you. You will lose valuable business, and it's not likely that you will get it back, even after you waste time explaining to your clients who is what.
Some very naive amateurs buy domain names with many unnecessary extra words, and very long domain names that often include many hyphens (dashes) or numbers. It's nice to dream, but the reality is that these domain names are worthless and useless, and a total waste of time and money. All you are doing is sending valuable traffic and business to your competitors.
When you copy someone else's domain names there is often confusion, and when you confuse users, laws are there to prevent this confusion. Don't be surprised if you get sued by the owners of the domain names you copied, and it can easily end up costing you a lot of money. You could also easily lose your business and other assets.
The Internet is very competitive and you either have the right domain names or you don't. Having unnecessary extra words or numbers is the wrong strategy used by amateurs.
